SEP Metrology raises the standard of the industry in Granby
Granby, August 25, 2026 – SEP Metrology is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Founded in Granby in 2006 by Érick Rainville and Isabelle Faucher, the company has established itself as a Quebec leader in industrial metrology, a discreet field that ensures the precision and reliability of measuring instruments used every day in factories. Two decades later, it serves approximately one hundred industrial clients and has posted average annual revenue growth of 15% to 20% over the past five years.
A key link in Granby’s industrial park
The presence of an accredited laboratory at the heart of the industrial park is a game changer for manufacturers in the region. It gives them access, just minutes from their production floors, to a level of quality control that once required long trips to major urban centres. This proximity shortens turnaround times, secures certifications and opens the door to contracts requiring documented rigor.
SEP Metrology thus supports the development of specialized sectors in the region, where the margin for error remains minimal: aerospace, medical, transportation, energy, defence and the military sector. Each calibrated instrument becomes proof of compliance that allows a local company to bid on contracts with major clients. By raising measurement standards, the company is helping make Haute-Yamaska a region capable of supporting high-quality industries.
Twenty years of growth, step by step
The story began in 2006 with a calibration service offered directly at companies’ facilities. Incorporation followed in 2010, and in 2011, co-founder Isabelle Faucher began working full-time for the company. The team then developed its own cloud-based instrument fleet management software, GescalPRO, in 2012, and established its first calibration laboratory in 2014. ISO 9001:2015 certification followed in 2016, and in 2019 came ISO 17025:2017 accreditation, the global standard that officially recognizes the status of a calibration and testing laboratory.
The year 2023 marked a turning point with the move to Granby’s industrial park and the development of a temperature-controlled room, that is, an environment with controlled temperature and humidity, representing an investment of more than 300,000 .. In 2024, the company added several calibration and inspection services, supported by investments of more than $625,000 in high-precision equipment: a coordinate measuring machine, a 2D vision system, torque wrench and pressure gauge calibrators, an electrical calibrator and a profile tracer combined with a surface roughness measuring instrument.
Since 2023, nearly $1 million has been invested in the laboratory, equipment and facilities, with the support of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, Investissement Québec, CAE Haute-Yamaska and Desjardins.
A complete offering, from the laboratory to the factory floor
SEP Metrology now offers a turnkey service, either in the laboratory or directly at the client’s location. Complete instrument fleet management, ISO 17025:2017 accredited calibration, 2D and 3D dimensional inspection in a controlled environment, coordinate measuring machine programming, as well as technical support and training make up its service offering. The company also acts as an authorized distributor of Mitutoyo products and operates an online store where every instrument sold is delivered with an ISO 17025 calibration certificate.
A partnership that expands its reach
Since June 2026, SEP Metrology and PPM Metrology have combined their expertise through a strategic partnership established between Érick Rainville, President of SEP Metrology, and Xavier Guillaud, President of PPM Metrology. By pooling their technical, human and material resources, the two companies are increasing their service capacity for industrial, manufacturing and institutional clients in Quebec and Canada. SEP Metrology manages calibration operations, infrastructure management and logistics, while PPM Metrology contributes its specialized technical expertise, staff training and support with ISO 17025 compliance and accreditation. The partnership is also accelerating the development of electrical calibration capabilities.
“Twenty years are built one measurement at a time,” explains Érick Rainville, founding president. “Our clients entrust us with what guarantees the quality of their production. When a Granby company wins an aerospace contract because its instruments are compliant, the entire region moves up a level. The partnership with PPM Metrology fits exactly into that logical progression.”
A voice for industry in the business ecosystem
Since June 2026, Érick Rainville has served on the board of directors of the Haute-Yamaska Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This role gives manufacturing realities a place at the table where regional economic priorities are discussed: attracting skilled technical workers, access to specialized equipment and growth conditions for industrial SMEs. The company sees this as a way to give back to an ecosystem that has supported it and to represent the voice of companies that manufacture, measure and export from Haute-Yamaska.
This commitment extends collaborations that are already well established. For several years, SEP Metrology has maintained a partnership with Cégep de Granby, offering internships in industrial engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as workplace learning projects. The company also recognizes the ongoing support of Granby Industriel and the City of Granby in its development.
Growth continues and the team is expanding
The next phase is already underway. The company is expanding its facilities, working to establish specialized metrology training programs with the Service aux entreprises de Granby and preparing its next generation with Charlotte Rainville and Jonathan Gagné. To support this pace of growth, SEP Metrology is recruiting electromechanical and mechanical engineering technicians, profiles that will work with high-precision measuring equipment, both in the laboratory and at client locations.
“We’re looking for curious, meticulous people who like to understand how things work,” says Isabelle Faucher, co-founder and vice-president. “Here, a technician works with instruments used in everything from aerospace to the medical field. It’s a precision profession where you learn something new every week, and it can be practiced right here in Granby.”
